Hey there, DIY enthusiasts! Let's talk about why entryway benches are an absolute game-changer. Seriously, if you haven't hopped on the entryway bench bandwagon yet, you're missing out big time. They are the unsung heroes of home decor. They give you that perfect spot to gear up before heading out or to unload when you stroll back in.
Entryway Bench for under $25! And takes less than an hour!
Think about it - an entryway bench is that sweet spot where you hit pause. It's where you gather your thoughts before stepping out into the world or where your guests get comfy as they settle in.
But here's the kicker - finding the right bench for your entryway can be a real headache. Sometimes, the space is just too narrow or too oddly shaped, or it's just plain small. But fear not, because DIY is the name of the game here.
DIY Entryway Bench
Enter our super-simple, quick DIY entryway bench project. Here are the overall dimensions: 36 inches long, 16 inches deep, and 17 and a half inches tall.
My entryway is on the cozy side, so I went with a bench that fits snugly against my shorter wall. It's a 42-inch wall, so the 36-inch bench is just the right fit, leaving room for some decor on the side.
But if you need something longer, simply adjust the dimensions! These plans are as customizable as you want them to be. Just swap out those 2-by-8-by-36-inch boards for whatever length suits your space. Easy peasy!
Let's start building!
Materials
For the bench top: 1x — 2in. x 8 in. x 8ft Wood Board (cut to 36 in long)
For the legs (see image below on how this all comes together, it will be much clearer!):
1x — 2in. x 4 in. x 8ft Wood Board (4 pieces cut to 15 in long)
1x — 2in. x 4 in. x 8ft Wood Board (4 pieces cut to 8 in long)
Wood Stain (I used Minwax English Chestnut Penetrating Wood Stain)
Tools
OR Sanding Block (if doing it manually)
Rags for Staining
Instructions
Saw all the pieces to the above dimensions. (Home Depot will cut the pieces for you except for the 8-inch pieces. They don't cut anything under 1 foot)
Sand all the boards down to get any rough areas down.
Screw the legs sections into a box like this:
3. Screw on the 2 boards for the bench top:
4. Finally, stain your finished bench and add decor:

Now, speaking of style. Because what's a bench without a little personality? I'm all about keeping things sleek, rustic, and practical. For me, that means throwing in a couple of pillows for that cozy vibe and a basket or bin underneath for shoe storage. No more tripping over shoes on your way out the door! Also, I change it up for each season to freshen up the look.
And if you're feeling fancy, toss in a vase with some fresh greens or show off those cute boots you've been dying to flaunt. The key here is to keep it simple, keep it stylish, and keep it YOU. After all, your entryway bench is the first thing you and your guests see when you walk through that door. So why not make it a statement piece? Trust me, once you DIY your way to entryway bliss, there's no turning back.
